This event took place on Saturday 3 October 2026. Thank you to everyone who came. Read about the reopening.
Riverside Park reopens on Saturday 3 October after a £2.4 million restoration, and we’d like you to celebrate with us. Bring a picnic, a blanket, your family and friends, and be among the first to explore the new playground, the wetland boardwalk and the 140 new trees.
What to expect
- 11:30: the Mayor, Helena Marsh, officially reopens the park
- live music on the main lawn from Larkhaven Youth Brass and local bands
- guided walks on the wetland boardwalk at 12:00 and 14:00 with the parks team
- storytelling and games in the new playground
- a tree trail to find the new species planted in the park
Hot drinks and snacks will be on sale from local traders, but this is a bring-your-own picnic.
Accessibility
The main paths, the playground and the boardwalk are step-free. There will be accessible toilets by the main lawn and a quiet area away from the music. A British Sign Language interpreter will sign the opening at 11:30.
Getting there
There’s no parking at the park, so please walk, cycle or use public transport. Cycle parking is available at the Embankment Road entrance.
