On Saturday 31 October, Central Library and all five of our branch libraries will stay open late for the Night of the Libraries: five hours of stories, music, games and a few Halloween frights, from 18:00 to 23:00. Everything is free.
What’s on
| Library | Highlights |
|---|---|
| Central Library, Quay Square | Halloween lantern making for families (18:00–20:00), ghost stories by torchlight in the old reading room, a quiz at 20:00 and a silent disco among the shelves (21:00–23:00, ages 16 and over) |
| Northbank | Board games for all ages, with a games expert to teach you new ones |
| Saltmarsh | Family film and popcorn at 18:30 |
| Wren Valley | Spooky story trail around the library |
| Eastcliff | Open mic for poetry, stories and songs |
| Fennick | Pumpkin carving and craft |
Most activities are drop-in. The ghost story sessions at Central Library have limited places, so book at any library from Saturday 17 October.
Accessibility
All six libraries are step-free. At Central Library there’s a quiet room all evening, and the 18:30 ghost story session will be interpreted in British Sign Language. Some activities use low lighting and sudden sounds: staff can tell you which ones.
Getting there
Central Library is on Quay Square, opposite City Hall. Its normal Saturday opening ends at 17:00, and the doors reopen at 18:00 for the Night of the Libraries. Find addresses for all our libraries on the libraries page.
